Q: What are the duties of a Home Health Aide?

A: Home Health Aides are responsible for providing a safe, secure and healthy environment for the patient in their home. Some of the job duties include:

Providing personal care, such as assisting with bathing, dressing and grooming
Assist with walking or carrying out physical therapy exercises
Monitoring the patient’s condition by observing physical and mental states
Reminding patients to take their medications
Light housekeeping duties, such as bed making, laundry, shopping, cooking meals or running errands

Q: What are the requirements to become a Home Health Aide?

A: Those who are interested in becoming a Home Health Aide must have:

Basic math and reading skills (required)
High school diploma or GED (preferred)
A driver’s license and a car (required)

Training is provided to applicants with the potential of becoming an employee with Redeemer Health. Potential employees must be able to complete a physical examination and provide work-related references. A criminal history background investigation and motor vehicle record check from various state and federal agencies will also be conducted and employment is contingent upon the results of those inquiries.

A: Redeemer Health can provide you with the tools to begin your new career in healthcare. Our training class is taught by a Registered Nurse who has experience teaching new caregivers the skills needed to provide care to patients in their home. Our class is held several times a year in our office in Northeast Philadelphia. The training class is typically held Monday through Friday for two weeks (10 days) between the hours of 9:00am – 4:30pm. The training class is FREE.
